Hong Kong has become a world leader in horse racing with an average prize money per race of HK$9.1 million. The 2023/24 season will see even more growth in domestic prize money with increases across every class from Griffins to Class 1 and the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, maintaining Hong Kong’s position as a top horseracing hub.
A team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology won the 2019 MIT Media Lab Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Contest (MITxMExPEC) for their project, “Cycling in Space: A Virtual and Augmented Reality Platform to Promote Health and Wellness in Elderly People,” which will create an innovative e-health app to support elderly residents in a care home setting. The e-health application will help to enhance the quality of life for elderly residents by enabling them to track their exercise, eating and sleep patterns, as well as providing guidance on the implementation of healthy lifestyle habits.

This week the Asian Tour returns to Hong Kong for the eighth event of the International Series, the LINK Hong Kong Open at LIV Golf. The winner of this tournament will earn a prize money payout of $2m.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced a new record prize money pool of HK$1.38 billion for the 2023/24 domestic racing season, a rise of eight percent on last year’s total. This includes an increase in prize money for each of the nine classes of racing, from Griffins to Class One and the Four-Year-Old Championship Series, as well as increased bonuses for PPs and HK$1 million for first wins by a gelding or filly in a Class 2 or higher when rated 80 or higher in the same period.
To ensure the fairness of the Prize Draw, a number of measures have been put in place. For example, employees with HKJC’s security and customer service departments will strictly check all the materials used in the Prize Draw, from boxing to transport, while the balls are also measured, weighed and examined by X-ray on a regular basis. In addition, the Prize Draw is audited and certified by an independent third party to guarantee its impartiality and integrity.
