Sydney Dy Pools

There is nothing quite like a day at the beach, the warmth of the sun, the saltiness of the sea and the faint tropical creaminess from your sunscreen. That’s why this mineral, ambery and subtly tropical fragrance captures the perfect scent of a day at Sydney’s incredible beaches. With notes of Australian sandalwood, coconut skin accord, driftwood note, frangipani and seaweed, this is a sensual and fresh floral fragrance with subtle ambermax and sea salt.

Known as the oldest harbour pool in Australia, Wylie’s was built by Henry Wylie, a long-distance swimmer and underwater diver who also owned a sporting goods store at Pyrmont. It was originally opened in 1907 as a mixed family bathing venue and in 1910 women were allowed to swim in the pool – as long as they wore appropriate modest swimming costumes. It has since been listed on the Heritage Register of NSW.

As the name suggests, this pool is located on a small peninsula on a quiet cove south of Sydney. Despite being relatively small it is a favourite among swimmers, with the sheltered waters of the bay providing a safe haven from strong currents and high seas. The area is also popular with kayakers and snorkellers, and has a great view of the city skyline.

The Pools was once home to one of the most famous ocean swim races in Australia. The Sydney to Hobart race was first run in 1899 and is regarded as the oldest ocean swim event in the southern hemisphere. The race was won by James McFarland in a time of 3:31:10. In the late 1920s it became a favourite training location for the Australian Olympic team. The pool was closed in 1930 after a fire destroyed the pavilion and dressing rooms, and again in 1970 when storms and high seas damaged it.
