HSBC Holdings has decided to put on hold its plan to roll out a dark pool for retail investors, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The bank had hoped to launch the StockMax dark pool in order to help market participants save money by enabling them to achieve spreads between bid and offer prices that are narrower than those available on Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing.

The new dark pool will not be launched anytime soon, as the bank needs to review its current business model.
