The Hong Kong Prize and BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize

The Hong Kong prize is one of the region’s premier writing competitions, drawing participants from across Asia. Winners receive monetary prizes and book vouchers, as well as the chance to showcase their work at an awards ceremony. Before you decide to enter, though, it’s important to read the rules and regulations carefully. This will help you avoid costly mistakes that could jeopardize your chances of winning.

Hong Kong’s art scene is flourishing, with nine artists making the shortlist for this year’s HK Arts prize. The prize aims to recognise excellence in art and culture and encourage young talent. This year’s theme is “Honour and Disgrace”, which invites entries that explore the unique historical status of Hong Kong.

The first prize comes with a cash award of US$100,000* and is presented at a ceremony in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. There is also a second prize of US$50,000*, which is presented at a ceremony in the Faculty of Humanities of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Both prizes are awarded in the name of the late Professor Gregory Winter, Nobel laureate for Chemistry.

It is an honour for the HK Phil to receive this prize, which recognizes our four-year project to record Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The HK Phil extends its heartfelt thanks to the Hong Kong SAR Government, Principal Patron Swire Group and music-lovers in Hong Kong and beyond for their support.

Founded in 2022, BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is a platform to inspire scientific researchers and innovators to persist in innovative exploration, establish themselves in Hong Kong, serve the nation and contribute to the world. It focuses on five fields: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Each field is supervised by a panel of experts, with renowned scholars and experts from both Hong Kong and overseas invited to select outstanding scientific researchers/teams for recognition.

Only research articles (including prospective and retrospective clinical studies, observational studies, epidemiological studies, basic science studies, meta-analysis etc.) published in the HKJO during the year are eligible for consideration. Submissions must be original and the author must have been conferred Fellow of the Academy within the past 10 years. Letters to the Editor and case reports are not accepted. Applicants should submit a copy of the full article and an abstract to the Academy by the application deadline. Further details are available here. The Board of Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation is the highest decision-making body of the HK Arts Prize. It comprises a Review Committee, a Compliance Oversight Team and a Secretariat. It is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the articles of the Prize Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields to be considered for THE PRIZE; setting requirements for nominating experts; and verifying and approving the final review results. The decisions of the Board are final.
